Advancing Biomass-to-Hydrogen Innovation: Insights from ISB2H Symposium at IIT Roorkee

The transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon future requires strong collaboration between research institutions, industry experts, policymakers, and technology innovators. Advancements in biomass conversion technologies are creating new opportunities to transform agricultural residues and organic waste into clean energy and valuable carbon products.

The Department of Hydro and Renewable Energy (HRED), Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, organised the International Symposium on Biomass to Hydrogen: Technologies, Synergies, and System Integration (ISB2H) under the patronage of Prof. K. K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee.

The symposium brought together leading researchers and experts from premier institutions including IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, BIS, and other reputed research organisations to discuss the future of biomass-based renewable energy solutions.

A key highlight of the event was the discussion on “Biomass to Hydrogen – Prospects and Challenges”, focusing on emerging technologies, system integration, standardisation requirements, and pathways for large-scale adoption.

The event also included a BIS Standards session led by Prof. Sonal K. Thengane, focusing on the importance of standardisation in accelerating the adoption of biomass and renewable energy technologies.

At Soham Carbon Innovators, we are proud to have Prof. Sonal K. Thengane as our Technical Advisor. His expertise in biomass conversion technologies, biochar systems, and renewable energy solutions strengthens our mission of developing scientifically driven and commercially scalable carbon solutions.

Our work focuses on converting agricultural residues into valuable resources through advanced biomass pyrolysis technologies, enabling:

• Sustainable biochar production

• Carbon sequestration and carbon removal solutions

• Agricultural residue management

• Renewable energy generation through bio-oil and syngas pathways

Events like ISB2H reinforce the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to accelerate innovation in clean energy technologies.

At Soham Carbon Innovators, we remain committed to transforming biomass challenges into climate-positive opportunities through engineering, research, and sustainable innovation.
